Laws, regulations, airline policies, and cemetery rules can vary by state, locality, and individual organization. SpeedyUrns does not provide legal or professional advice. We strongly recommend that you consult directly with your funeral director, crematory, cemetery, attorney, or the appropriate government agency (such as the TSA or local authorities) to ensure you have the most current and accurate information for your specific situation.
1. How do I know what size cremation urn I need?
The general guideline is that 1 pound of body weight equals approximately 1 cubic inch of cremated remains. Most adults need a 200 cubic inch urn. We recommend choosing a slightly larger urn if you are unsure. You can always keep a small portion in a keepsake urn.
2. What are the best materials for cremation urns?
Handcrafted aluminum urns are currently one of the most popular choices because they are lightweight, durable, corrosion-resistant, and feature beautiful designs. Other common materials include wood, ceramic, and bronze. You can compare all of our urn materials here.
3. Can I personalize or engrave the urn?
Yes, personalization is available on most of our urns. You can add names, dates, meaningful messages, or symbols. Please note that personalized and engraved urns are generally non-returnable.
4. How long does shipping take?
Most orders ship within 1–2 business days. We offer free standard shipping on all orders and free expedited shipping on orders over $99. You will receive tracking information once your order ships.
5. Can I travel with a cremation urn on an airplane?
Cremated remains are generally permitted in both carry-on and checked baggage. We recommend keeping the urn in your carry-on luggage. The TSA requires that the container be X-ray scannable. We suggest checking with your specific airline and the TSA for the latest guidelines before traveling.
6. What are the rules for burying an urn in a cemetery?
Rules vary by cemetery. Many traditional cemeteries require an urn vault (a protective outer container) for in-ground burial. Columbarium niches often have strict size requirements. We recommend contacting the cemetery directly to confirm their specific policies before purchasing.
7. Is it legal to keep ashes at home?
In most states, it is legal to keep cremated remains at home. There are generally no federal restrictions on storing ashes in your residence, but it is always best to confirm with local regulations if you have any concerns.
8. Can I scatter the ashes?
Scattering ashes is allowed in many locations, but rules vary. Private property is generally permitted with the owner’s permission. For public lands, parks, or at sea, permits or specific requirements may apply. We recommend checking with the appropriate local or federal agency.
9. What is your return policy?
We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on non-personalized urns. If you are not completely satisfied, you may return the urn in its original condition for a full refund. Personalized or engraved urns are non-returnable.
10. Do you offer wholesale or bulk pricing?
Yes. Funeral homes, crematories, and organizations can contact us directly for special pricing and volume discounts.
